Meetings of Cork City Council

Meetings of Cork County Borough Council are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 5.30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, Cork. The public and the press are admitted to Council meetings. View the Minutes of the Ordinary Meetings of Cork City Council.

Committees of Council

Cork City Council has established the following standing Committees of Council:  

Housing Committee

The Housing Committee consists of fifteen Members of Council with the Lord Mayor as ex-officio member. The Housing Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 5.30 p.m.

Roads, Transportation and Safety Committee

The Roads, Transportation and Safety Committee consists of fifteen members of Council with the Lord Mayor as ex-officio member. The Roads, Transportation and Safety Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 5.30 p.m.

Environmental Committee

The Environmental Committee consists of fifteen members of Council with the Lord Mayor as ex-officio member. The Environmental Committee meets on the third Monday of each month at 5.30 p.m. 

Finance and General Purposes/Planning and European Affairs Committees

The Finance and General Purposes/Planning and European Affairs Committees consists of fifteen members of Council with the Lord Mayor as ex-officio member. The meetings of the Finance and General Purposes/Planning and European Affairs Committees alternate at the ratio of 2 Finance and General Purposes Committee meetings to 1 Planning and European Affairs Committee Meetings. These Committee meetings take place on the third Monday of each month at 5.30 p.m.

The Standing Committees meet once a month, except for the month of August where there are no meetings. 

"Better Local Government A Programme for Change" published by the Government in December 1996 set out measures for improving Local Government including the setting up by Local Authorities of Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs). These committees will include representatives of private organisations in addition to elected members.

Cork City Council is supportive of the programme and has taken preliminary steps to establish the following committees to replace the existing structure:

  • Housing and Community Services
  • Environment
  • Roads and Transportation
  • Development and Planning
  • Recreation, Amenities and Culture
