The launch of the 8th Lord Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards took place in City Hall on Wednesday 9 March. The awards are a recognition by the City Council of the valuable contribution that community groups make in their areas.
In 2010 over 100 groups were nominated in the six categories: Arts & Culture, Children and Youth, Community and Neighbourhood Services, Equality and Social Inclusion, Lifelong learning and Sport. The City Council hopes that the groups will nominate themselves or that people will nominate their favourite groups.
This year City Council is offering special prizes to groups who do not win the awards. A draw will take place for group sessions at the Glen Resource Centre and digital cameras.
The prizes on offer have been sponsored by Express Kitchens and Floors and the Evening Echo. Prizes will be awarded for 1st in category and runners up.
