Equality for Women Measure – RAPID Strand

The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform is inviting applications for funding under Phase II of the Equality for Women Measure (RAPID strand), covering the period 2004-2006.

The Equality for Women Measure is a positive action programme for women, led by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and funded through the National Development Plan 2000-2006. It is designed to promote pilot initiatives aimed at improving the economic, social, cultural and political lives of women.

Phase II of the Measure will fund a number of strands of activity, including one strand focused on women living in communities which face particular economic disadvantage. Under the RAPID Strand, €7 million has been earmarked to fund projects which address the needs of women living in designated RAPID (Revitalising Areas through Planning, Investment and Development) areas. The RAPID programme operates in 45 designated disadvantaged communities in Irish cities and towns.

Full details of the Measure and copies of the application form and guidelines, are available on the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform website (www.justice.ie) or the ADM website (www.adm.ie). They are also available directly from the Department at 01 4790200 or from ADM at 01 2400700.

The four RAPID Area Implementation Teams in Cork City have welcomed the initiative. Applicants have been advised to submit their proposals to the relevant RAPID Area Implementation Teams (AITs) for endorsement. While the official closing date for applications is Friday, the 15th of October, groups seeking endorsement of the AITs will need to submit their application to the Cork RAPID office by October 4th. The Cork RAPID office will be holding a briefing session for relevant groups on September 14th in the Cork City Partnership office, Blackpool at 12 noon. For further information please contact the RAPID office at 4210133.
