Boost for Sports Groups in RAPID areas

There was good news for some sporting groups in the four RAPID areas in Cork city recently. Seven groups which were successful under the Sports Capital Programme 2004 have received a further boost in that they will now receive additional top-up funding of up to 30%. This applies only to successful projects in RAPID areas that were endorsed by the RAPID Area Implementation Team.

Some of the projects to benefit in Cork City include:

  • Blackpool Youth Club
  • Mayfield GAA cub
  • Ringmahon Rangers
  • Cork City Council - Mahon Sports Project
  • St. Michaels GAA club
  • Cork City Council - Togher Community Association / Ballyphehane Community Association
  • Cork City Council - Fairfield dressing rooms.

Overall, the groups received an additional €137,000 on top of the €480,000 previously awarded. The funding was granted through the Dept. of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs and is part of a €2 million to-up fund for sports projects in the RAPID areas countrywide.

This funding is the latest in series of recent funding boosts for the RAPID areas in Cork city. These include €72,000 for a playground in each RAPID area and €66,000 towards Local Authority Enhancement works in each RAPID area.

The RAPID areas in Cork City are:

Knocknaheeny/Churchfield
