Cork City Council Capital Programme Preparing for 2005 European Capital of Culture

The City Council itself has prepared a programme of capital projects with a focus on 2005 and this document outlines details of the capital programme. Many of these projects relate to art, culture and tourism promotion. Others relate to public infrastructure and specific community needs.

Not only will these initiatives contribute to the enhancement of the city for 2005, they will also bring long lasting benefits to the community.

This programme of capital projects is very ambitious. It represents a total capital investment of over €196 million of which €67 million must come from the Council’s own resources.

All the ingredients are in place now to ensure the completion of 80% of the projects by 2005 and we are hopeful that we will also succeed in bringing in the other 20%.

Thanks go the staff in all our departments for their work and for their determination to deliver this programme for 2005.
