Cork City Council commissioned PA Consulting Group (“PA”) to undertake an Information Technology and Telecommunication Study (“CITTS”) for the Cork City region. The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources funded CITTS under the National Development Plan.
The main objectives of the study are to:
Outline how the external connectivity of Cork city to international broadband systems can be maximised, and
Define and focus on the city’s role and opportunities within national and European eCommerce development.
The provision of high quality ICT services is vital to the economic and social prosperity of Cork City. This report focuses on developing an ICT strategy for Cork City set in the context of local and national strategies and the development of the Cork City Metropolitan Area Network (“CCMAN”), which will provide high speed connectivity on a 61km ring around Cork City.
CITTS identifies ten actions to exploit the potential of ICT and broadband for the benefit of all stakeholders within Cork City.
