Bliain eisceachtúil ea ba 2005 do Chorcaigh. Is iontach an dul chun cinn atá déanta inár mbonneagar agus inár dtimpeallacht tógtha. Gan amhras, tá Corcaigh i mbarr a réimse faoi láthair, go mór mhór tar éis an an ceilliúradh mar Chaibidil Chultúrtha na hEorpa 2005.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year when we spend time with family and friends, relax a little and rejuvenate the batteries in the middle of winter.
Christmas is also a time for giving, especially the gift of time which has become so valuable in today’s busy world. Time we spend with our family and with those who can be so lonely, for whatever reason, in our community.
We are always conscious of the fact that so many people experience severe financial difficulties at Christmas time and it is wonderful to see so many charities being so well supported at this time. We thank all those involved with charity services for the work they do all year around and particularly at Christmas time. We thank them for providing a means through which we can support those in need.
We think of all those who are sick or ill at this time particularly those who are in hospital and we thank those who are caring for them.
While most of us will be having a well-deserved rest during the festive season, our essential services such as ESB, Fire Services, Gardaí, telephones and medical services continue to operate. They will be foregoing the time with their dear ones to ensure our comfort and safety.
As we face into 2006, I want to thank the people of Cork for their support, for their enthusiasm and for the pride they demonstrated during 2005 - the year we celebrated the fact that we were European Capital of Culture.
Nollaig faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh go léir
