Minister Dempsey launched ‘makeITsecure 2005’, a national IT security awareness campaign being run by his Department in partnership with a number of private companies and representative organisations. This year’s campaign moves on from basic awareness raising about the issue of IT security to deal in more detail with the specific challenges that individuals and companies face in this area. The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources is joined in the campaign consortium by Microsoft, Dell, Symantec, Irish Bankers Federation, BT Ireland, Vodafone, Eircom, National Centre for Technology in Education, Internet Advisory Board (IAB), RTÉ and Ward Solutions.
The campaign has been developed to inform people of the risks that they potentially face and the steps that they can take to protect themselves, their information, their families and their businesses. A website, www.makeitsecure.ie was also launched by the Minister. The website is a source of a wide range of information for the public on the issue of IT security and a full information booklet can also be downloaded from the site. The campaign will culminate in makeITsecure day on November 17th.
