Tuesday, 8th to Friday, 11th of November 2005 Cork City Council, in conjunction with University College Cork, is pleased to announce details of "Days of St Petersburg" in Cork from 8th - 11th of November 2005. The festival, which comprises of a number of different events in a variety of venues, is designed to celebrate and foster links between Cork and St. Petersburg, and between Ireland and Russia more generally.
All events are free and no bookings are required.
Russian folk music will be performed by the Chamber Choir “Rozhdestvo” in three different venues across Cork City. The choirs' performances can be attended on Tuesday, November 8th at 4 p.m., in the Honan Chapel at UCC, Wednesday, November 9th at 1 p.m. in St. Finbarr's Cathedral, and Thursday, November 10th at 1 p.m. in the English Market. On Friday, November 11th at 1 p.m. a joined performance with the Cork "Fuchsia Band" will be taking place in the Student Center in the UCC.
The Chamber Choir “Rozhdestvo” (Christmas) conducted by Olga Stupneva is an ensemble that has a rich musical palette. "Rozhdestvo" represents classical Russian sacred music in its traditional understanding and surprises its audience by an unexpected theatrical performance.

The exhibition "Views of Saint Petersburg in the litographs of the first half of the 19th century" will be opened on Wednesday, November 9th at 6 p.m. in the Glucksman Gallery. This shows a wide selection of engraved and lithographic pictures. Scenes from the life of St. Petersburg, views of the city, its buildings and monuments are reproduced. These works of prominent masters of the late 18th — middle 19th centuries are regarded as some of the best specimens of Russian and European print.
On Wednesday, November 9th at 8 p.m. in the Glucksman Gallery the electronic presentation a "Virtual stroll along St. Petersburg" will be shown to the visitors.
Two public lectures complete the programme. On Tuesday, November 8th at 6 p.m., a lecture on the Irish “Celtic Revival” and the Russian “Silver Age” by A. Mashinyan, Director of the Irish Culture Centre of the St. Petersburg State University will be held in Kane Building G 19, in the UCC. On Thursday, November 10th at 8 p.m., the second lecture on "James Joyce in St. Petersburg" by T. Ponomareva, Director of the Vladimir Nabokov Museum, will be held in Boole Lecture Theatre 1 in the UCC.
The St. Petersburgs delegation consists of political, economic and cultural figures, who will be meeting with their Cork counterparts on Wednesday, November 9th at 4 p.m. in the City Hall.
The Lord Mayor will officially receive the St. Petersburg delegates on Thursday, November 10th at 4 p.m. in the City Hall.
