Cork City Council Supporting National Bike Week 2010

The National Bike Week initiative is part of Cork City Council’s calendar of events to promote cycling for an EU project called "Trendy Travel".
June 2009 saw the launch of Ireland’s first ever National Bike Week and the experience was so positive that it’s back again this year and will run from 13th to 20th June. Cycling is a fun way to get about and keep fit at the same time, while avoiding all the traffic jams.
In Cork there are several events organised, coordinated by a multi-agency group including Cork City and County Councils, Cork Cycling Campaign, Cork Environmental Forum, An Óige and Cork Sports Partnership.
Bike Week kicks off on Sunday 13th June with the official opening at 1pm of the newly upgraded Passage West to Blackrock Castle amenity path. A Family Cycle from Passage to Blackrock will be followed by a fun afternoon and party at Blackrock Castle. All enthusiastic young cyclists are welcome.
On Tuesday evening at 8pm in the Roundy House , Daunt’s Square, cycle short movies will be shown and if you are feeling more active join the An Óige cycle to Robert’s Cove on Thursday evening.
On Sunday 20th June, a Charity Cycle will start at 2pm at Colaiste Choilm in Ballincollig finishing at Fitzgerald’s Park with great prizes and fun and games. All proceeds will be donated to Marymount Hospice.
The Bike to Work initiative and National Bike Week 10 minute Cycle Challenge is a great way to encourage new cyclists to give it a go and great prizes can be won. Register and see more details on www.cyclechallenge.ie
