The Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards 2008 will be launched in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork, on Thursday, 13th March at 12.30 p.m.
Lord Mayor Cllr. Donal Counihan is delighted to welcome the fifth Awards Scheme: “ This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work of community and voluntary groups for the time, effort and commitment that they put towards the betterment of their communities. Much of this work is on a voluntary basis.”
The Scheme is sponsored by the Evening Echo and Express Kitchens and Floors and has a total prize fund of €7,500.
The Awards Scheme is an opportunity for groups in the community and voluntary sector to come together and celebrate their work. Its purpose is to recognise the valuable contribution the sector makes to the social and cultural life of Cork city and to the quality of life of its citizens.
All groups based in Cork City are eligible to apply and may be nominated or may nominate themselves.
There are five Award Categories:
· Art and Culture
· Children and Youth
· Community and Neighbourhood Service
· Equality and Social Inclusion
· Sport
