The Freedom of Information legislation was enacted on 21st April 1997. It was applied to local authorities and health boards on 21st October 1998. Since then, the Act has encompassed more public bodies.
The Freedom of Information legislation establishes three statutory rights:
The Freedom of Information (Amendment) Act, 2003 saw the introduction of fees. Cork City Council is obliged to charge for requests for non-personal records. A fee of €15.00 must accompany your request. A reduced fee of €10.00 applies if you are the holder of a medical card.
