The City Development Plan 2004 puts forward a new vision for the development of the city for the next 6 years and beyond. It is a totally new plan and is the first plan for the city prepared under the Planning and Development Act 2000. It is set within the context of the National Spatial Strategy and the Cork Area Strategic Plan (CASP).
The City Development Plan 2004 sets the stage for a major improvement in the economic, social and cultural position of Cork City. Centre. There is considerable potential for further growth in and at the edge of the city centre over the period of this Development Plan, while respecting the context provided by the existing historic fabric of the city which gives it its distinctive character.
The City Development Plan is the product of an extensive process of consultation with the public and the various stakeholders in the City, with the active involvement of the Members of the City Council.
The Plan is extremely wide ranging and comprehensive, covering enterprise and employment, transportation, social issues and housing, the built environment and urban design, environmental management, natural heritage and recreation, the City Centre and Docklands, policies for suburban areas, development control standards and environmental appraisal.
