Aims

  • To contribute to quality of life in Cork city through the development of a high quality environment
  • To encourage and facilitate sustainability in the planning and execution of all development and activities
  • To actively promote empowerment of local people so they can take responsibility for their own actions which impact on the Environment, and help implement solutions
  • To provide a continuous and sufficient supply of pure drinking water in a sustainable manner for all domestic, commercial and industrial needs of the city
  • To provide and maintain, in a sustainable manner, a drainage collection and treatment system to meet the needs of the city

Put simply, our approach to care for the Environment is based on the principle of sustainable development i.e. "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". In other words we hold our present environment in trust for future generations and as such have a responsibility to ensure that we manage our affairs in such a way as to ensure that future generations can also enjoy a good quality of life.

Cork City Council, in its role as a provider of services such as waste collection, recycling facilities, water and drainage can undertake measures to protect the environment we live in, nevertheless there is a duty on everybody to make their contribution in the area of environmental care.
