Collection of Household Dry Recyclables

Cork City Council has introduced a service for the recycling of household dry recyclables. These are collected from households once a fortnight on the same day, but not necessarily at the same time, as the normal refuse collection.
Households whose domestic refuse accounts are in order have been provided with clear plastic bags into which the following may be placed:

• Clean Mixed Paper, Newspapers, Magazines and Brochures
• Clean Cardboard
• Washed Drink Cans (Aluminium)
• Washed Food Cans (Steel)
• Washed Tetrapaks (Milk & Juice Cartons)
• Washed Plastic Bottles / Containers

The bags should be presented for collection every second week (by 7.00 a.m. on the morning of collection) and placed beside the wheel bin.

Recycling

Under the waste management hierarchy minimisation, re use and recyling are the preferred options to landfilling of waste. These options are part of National and EU policy and are reflected in the City Councils Waste Management Plan. Currently the city has 42 bring sites and one Civic Amenity Centre. These sites accept a variety of goods for recycling.

In addition there is a facility at the Civic Amenity Centre for acceptance of green waste i.e grass cuttings, hedging etc. for composting.

Home composters are also available on application to: -

Cork County Council,
Room 610, Floor 6,
County Hall, Cork.
