This Section is responsible for implementing the objectives of the City Council’s Traveller Accommodation Programme 2005 – 2008. This programme was adopted by Council in February 2005. The unit is supported in its work by the Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee whose members are drawn from housing officials, public representatives and representatives of the travelling community. Provision of standard local authority housing, group housing schemes and maintenance of existing halting sites are the core accommodation objectives of the programme.

The section generally manages all traveller related issues including the management/control of halting sites. The matter of dealing with illegally parked traveller caravans also comes within the control of this section. This section also deal with the control of stray horses.
