The I.S. Department provides many functions for the Council the main items are listed below.
The I.S. Department is divided into four main sections. The Head of Information systems manages the department with the assistance of five Business System Analysts who manage the following teams: Financial Applications, Network Administration, General Applications, HelpDesk Administration and Mapping Services. The Department has 20 full time staff and a number of temporary staff.
Cork City Council's Information Systems Strategy 2004 to 2007 provides a useful insight into the current technological activities of the local authority and the strategy for the future. The Head of I.S. met with each directorate individually and the management team as a whole to identify their main priorities for 2004-7. Based upon these findings the I.S. requirement to assist these goals was extrapolated. The main projects are
Cork City Council is committed to eGovernment and through its eGovernment Steering Committee plans to be a leader in this field. The committee is made-up of the Head of I.S. and several of the councils directors. Currently the entire website has been redeveloped using stylesheets by I.S. staff.
