Cork City Council Sports Capital Grant Scheme 2009

Cork City Council through its Sports Capital Grant Scheme seeks to assist voluntary sporting and community organisations in developing and enhancing sports and recreation facilities throughout the City.

Major Sports Grants (Over €15k)

The Scheme is not intended as an alternative to the Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism Sports Capital Grant Scheme or other sources of funding, but will complement this scheme, possibly helping with local contributions to satisfy criteria of other funding agencies, assisting with funding where certain works are not funded by the Department Scheme etc.

Multi-Annual Grants Scheme

Some large scale works which do not qualify for national funding may be considered for a Multi-Annual funding commitment. Those awarded Multi-Annual grants in 2008 will not be eligible for any funding.

Each applicant should

(i) Have title to the property which they are enhancing, have a licence or lease greater than 15 years or provide a letter of comfort from the landlord in relation to title.

(ii) Demonstrate that the proposed works meet a sporting need in the area.

(iii) Provide evidence of other funding applications – Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism, etc.

(iv) Provide costings and time line for project.

(v) Provide evidence of any other funding, evidence of own funding and copy of previous two years accounts.

(vi) Be located within the City Boundary or provide evidence that the majority of those using the facility live within the City area.

(vii) Undertake to refund the City Council for any grant given if the facility changes use or ceases to operate.

Minor Sports Grants (Under 15k)

This Scheme will complement existing sources of funding where possible and allow for minor capital grants towards enhancement of premises, pitches etc., as well as allowing for the purchase of non personal sports equipment that will be used for at least five years.

The same criteria apply here as for major Grants, except the length of lease/licence requirements is five years.

Who may apply for funding?

· Applications will be accepted from voluntary sporting and community organisations from within the City Boundary (see condition VI)

What projects can be funded?

Projects must be of a capital nature and must involve provision or enhancement of a sporting facility, or the buying of non personal sports equipment that will be used for at least five years.
