Development of new City Park - Marina Park

In 2008 An Bord Pleanála confirmed a compulsory purchase order (C.P.O.) proposed by the Docklands Directorate for 10 hectares of land at the Marina. The objective of the C.P.O. is to facilitate the development of a contemporary urban park (Marina Park) as a flagship project to serve the Docklands. The lands which were the subject of the C.P.O. include some 8.7 hectares occupied by the Munster Agriculture Society at the Cork Showgrounds as well as a smaller portion of land to the north west of Pairc Uí Chaoimh.

It is intended to procure Landscape Architecture consultants to prepare a design for the park in early 2012.  Following advertising for consultants, six groups of multi-disciplinary consultants led by Landscape Architecture firms were shortlisted in December 2010. These groups included Landscape Architectural firms from Ireland, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The second stage of the procurement process will take place in January 2012 with appoinment in February 2012.  It is expected that the masterplan design of Marina Park will be completed by end 2012/early 2013.
