Swimming Pools
The City Council operates a number of leisure facilities in the City :-
Leisureworld, Bishopstown
This state of the art facility is owned by Cork City Council and trades as Leisureworld. The directors of the company represent Cork City and County Councils, Cork City and County VECs, UCC and Cork Institute of Technology, under the chairmanship of Mr. Tim Healy, Finance Officer, Cork City Council.
The facility provides:
- 25m pool
- 18m pool
- Toddler pool
- Sauna
- Steam room
- Gymnasium
- Aerobics Studio
- All weather pitches

Leisureworld, Churchfield
A new Leisure Centre at Churchfield was opened by Cork City Council in 2005. This was funded by Cork City Council and the Department of Arts Sports and Tourism at a cost of €9.2m. The facility is managed by Leisureworld.
The complex comprises of:
- 25m Swimming Pool with slide
- Fun pool
- Learner pool
- Sauna
- Steamroom
- 300 sqm Gymnasium with city views
- Aerobics Studio
- All weather pitches

Gus Healy Pool, Douglas
The Gus Healy Pool, Douglas is managed by Leisureworld on behalf of Cork City Council. The Gus Healy Pool is open all year round and is available to Clubs, Schools and other organisations, as well as to the general public.
Fees are €4.00 for adults and €2.00 for children and old age pensioners.
There is a public session each day at lunchtime between 1pm and 2pm.

Mon – Fri: 7am – 2pm (1-2pm public), closed 2-6pm (with exceptions), open 6-10pm

Recreation Centres
Glen Resource and Sports Centre
The Glen Resource & Sports Centre is owned by Cork City Council and is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors, comprised mainly of local community representatives and tenants. Initially costing in excess of €3 million, the centre has received financial aid from European/Statutory Departments & Agencies.
The Glen Resource Centre provides the following facilities:
Outdoor Facilities:
- Soccer: 8 x 5 –A side floodlit ‘ caged’ pitches.
- 2 x synthetic grass tennis courts
- 1 x floodlit outdoor basketball court
- Extended car-park
- High Ropes & Zip Wire Course
Indoor Facilities:
- Conference Room
- Meeting Room
- Activity Hall (activities avail throughout the year)

Knocknaheeny Sports Centre and Tramore Road Sports Centre
The City Council has provided two Recreation Centres at Knocknaheeny and Tramore Road. These centres may be hired for indoor football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, volleyball or tennis.
Knocknaheeny Sports Centre:
Located at Terence McSwiney Community College, Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeny, Cork.

Sam Allen Sports Complex
The Sam Allen Sports Centre consists of 8 all-weather pitches at Knockfree Avenue, Churchfield.
The facility is managed by Leisureworld on behalf of Cork City Council. Pitches are available for hire on an hourly basis with opening hours being:
- 2pm – 10.50pm Mon – Wednesday,
- 12.30pm to 10.50pm Thursdays,
- 1.30pm to 8.45pm Fridays,
- 12.30pm – 5.30pm Saturdays and closed Sundays.

All Weather Track
The City Council contributes towards the All Weather Track at the Cork Institute of Technology. Details available from CIT, Rossa Avenue, Cork – Tel No. 021 – 4545222.
Playing Pitches
The City Council provides 64 playing pitches at various locations in the City which are licensed to the Governing Bodies of the Sporting Organisations.
Dressing Rooms
Cork City Council recently constructed a state of the art changing facility in Coffeys Field in Togher and at Murphys Farm in Bishopstown. A
Cork City Council Sports Capital Grant Schemes
Cork City Council through its Sports Capital Grant Scheme initiated in 2007seeks to assist voluntary sporting and community organisations in developing and enhancing sports and recreation facilities throughout the City. Since 2007, a total of €1.9m has been allocated to Sports Clubs to enhance their facilities. Due to financial constrains this scheme is not operative at present.
