National Gateway City

As the country's second largest city, Cork enjoys special status under Ireland's National Spatial Strategy (NSS). Cork is designated a Gateway City under the NSS : a centre for national strategic growth with the industry and infrastructure to sustain development and generate investment

This Gateway status ensures that Cork can expect national support in consistently upgrading its rail, air and telecommunication links so that they continue to meet the highest international standards. Indeed, this process is already underway.
