If capital investment is the beating heart of business and enterprise represents the brain ; then infrastructure is its circulatory system - that essential network of veins and arteries which keeps everything moving and in a healthy state.

Metropolitan Cork places a high value on infrastructure. This is a region that recognises the need to maintain, up-date and expand its multi-layered transport and communications network on an on-going basis.

The Cork Area Strategic Plan sees the city's rail network as the backbone for an integrated high quality bus and rail system costing €750m. While the Port of Cork has plans to accomodate further growth at its outstanding deepwater facility which already contricutes €230m per year to the Irish economy.

Cork City Council has carried out the Cork Information Technology and Telecommunications Study (CITTS) which focuses on the provision of high quality ICT services in the city. The CITTS report can be accessed at http://www.corkcity.ie/news/archivednews2004/mainbody,4198,en.html
