Cork provides a safe and supportive environment in which to raise children. To this end, Cork City Childcare Company was formed in 2000. Since then, about €9million has been awarded in grants to childcare groups.
At Primary School Level, children receive a broad-based education in literacy and numeracy, as well as environmental, musical, cultural and physical studies.
Secondary School Level pupils sample a choice of subjects before choosing a number to study for examinations. Most schools have a busy programme of sports, physical education and special interest groups. These Secondary or 'High' schools produce just under 8,000 graduates a year, with about 4,000 available for employment immediately.
