Cork Docklands Development Project >> The City Council has ambitious and imaginative plans in place for an extensive re-development and rejuvenation of Cork's Docklands. This scheme is a central element of the larger Cork Area Strategic Plan (CASP), which provides the framework for development in Metropolitan Cork.
The objective is very simple: To establish a vibrant and stylish new urban quarter on Cork's docks comparable with the very best international examples of contemporary waterfront design.
The site occupies an area three times larger than the city centre including a 4km stretch of waterfront. near the city's retail core and transport hubs, the scheme will draw people to the waterfront with a combination of high quality recreational amenities and mixed-use development. New parks will be created along with walkways, a marina and moorings for pleasure craft. There will also be retail outlets, as many as 6,000 new homes and a further 560,000 sq.m. dedicated to commercial, retial, cultural and leisure facilities. (www.corkcity.ie/docklands/)
This is an especially significant project as it marks the first phase of the Docklands Development. The €130m rejuvenation of Lapps Quay involves two sites being developed by Howard Holdings and O'Flynn Construction respectively. Howard Holdings is developing a 200 bedroom hotel and international conference centre. The development will also provide some 7,500 sq.m. prime city centre office space across two inter-linked six-story buildings. O'Flynn Construction is providing 7,000 sq.m. of office space on an adjacent site.

Mahon Point >> Mahon Point is strategically located on the western side of the Jack Lynch Tunnel spanning both sides of the city's South Ring Road. The site includes the Mahon Point Shopping Centre together with restaurants and a cinema complex. Close by is the NSC (National Software Centre) mentioned earlier. The development will also have a 150 bed hotel, a Retail Park and Business Park comprising 22,300 sq.m., a Leisure Complex, Office accomodation comprising 5,575 sq.m. and a Conference Centre.
